As business owners, we often feel the pressure to make big, sweeping changes when something is not working. Or we start looking around and chasing what looks like success in someone else’s agency. But what if the real key to long-term growth isn’t a total overhaul?
In talking with hundreds (okay, thousands, but I didn't want to seem dramatic) of independent agents and agency owners, there's one thing we’ve seen repeatedly. Those who make small, consistent, strategic adjustments win over time. Not because they jump on every new trend, but because they pay attention. They stay nimble. (Insert required sports reference here).
In Episode 268 of the IA Forward podcast, Shane and I discuss how being nimble isn't optional, it's essential. Nimbleness isn’t just about being quick on your feet. It’s about being able to see what small changes needs to happen and having the courage to make the adjustments without scrapping everything you’ve built.
Here are 4 "micro moves" to help when you feel stuck or overwhelmed:
It’s tempting to assume everyone else has it figured out. But most of what we see is surface-level. You don’t need to rebrand your agency, switch CRMs, or add 5 new carriers to get traction. You need to follow the evidence of what’s working and let go of what is not. Double down on what’s already going well. Be honest with yourself about what you’ve been avoiding.
You don’t need a business revolution.
You need micro moves.
I challenge you: Find one small adjustment you can make in the next seven days that might make your business run smoother, your team less stressed, or your day a little easier.
Write it down. Do it. Track what happens.
Because the micro moves, not the big flashy pivot, is what real progress looks like.
Be fearless!
