Stop Asking Marketing to Pay You Back Tomorrow

Marketing does not always create an immediate lead, but that does not mean it is not working.

You sponsor the event.

You take a realtor to lunch.

You post on social media for six weeks.

You send the emails.

Then comes the question:

Where are the leads?

It is understandable.

Agency owners spend real money and real time on marketing, and they want to know whether it is working.

The problem is expecting every marketing activity to produce an immediate sale.

Insurance Is Not an Impulse Purchase

People do not wake up every morning excited to shop for insurance.

Most people become interested when something creates a reason.

They buy a house.

Their renewal arrives.

They start a business.

They become frustrated with their current situation.

Marketing helps make sure your agency is already familiar when that moment happens.

That takes time.

One Lunch Does Not Build a Referral Partner

The same applies to networking.

Taking a realtor to lunch once does not automatically make you the person they trust with their clients.

Neither does dropping donuts at a bank.

Referrals are built through relationships.

People want to know whether you will take care of the person they send your way.

That trust usually takes more than one interaction.

Sponsorship Means Participation

The episode also made an important point about community sponsorships.

Writing the check is only part of the opportunity.

If your agency sponsors an event, show up.

If you sponsor a team, attend the games.

If your sponsorship includes a table, put someone at the table.

The relationship building is where much of the value happens.

Measure It, Then Give It Time

Patience does not mean blindly spending money forever.

Measure what you can.

Track leads.

Ask people how they heard about you.

Watch engagement.

Look at traffic.

Adjust when something clearly is not working.

But give your strategy enough time to produce meaningful information.

Marketing is not about doing something once and hoping.

It is about showing up, measuring, improving, and continuing.

That is why it is a marathon.
